Joint Event of Tajikistan Addressing the Challenges of Fighters and Families returning from Conflict Zones

On June 21, 2023, on the sidelines of the UN Third Counter-Terrorism Week was held a joint side event of the Republic of Tajikistan, the Republic of Uzbekistan, the Republic of Iraq, the Kingdom of the Netherlands, the United States and the UNOCT under title “Addressing the Challenges of Fighters and Families returning from Conflict Zones”.
During the event, there were a comprehensive and constructive discussion of the issues, expansion of cooperation and involvement of stakeholders in the process of returning citizens from the Conflict zones of the Middle East.
The delegation of Tajikistan participated in this event and provided detailed information on the experience in returning Tajik citizens, especially women and children, from conflict zones of Iraq and Syria.
It was also emphasized that, according to the instructions of the Founder of Peace and National Unity – Leader of the Nation, President of the Republic of Tajikistan, His Excellency, Emomali Rahmon, since 2019, Tajikistan repatriated about 300 of its citizens from Syria and Iraq.
The participants were also informed about the experience of Tajikistan in working with repatriates, rehabilitation and their integration into civilian life.
