Bishkek hosted meeting of the Azerbaijani community
Fuad Muradov, Chairman of the State Committee on Work with Diaspora, met the members of the Azerbaijani community living in Kyrgyz Republic within the framework of the “Year of Heydar Aliyev”.
Azerbaijanis residing in different cities of Kyrgyz Republic came together in Bishkek.
First, State Anthem of Azerbaijan was performed, then the dear memory of Heydar Aliyev, the founder of the modern Azerbaijan, and our martyrs who died for the territorial integrity of our country, was commemorated with a minute of silence.
Event continued with the screening of the film dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the birth of national leader Heydar Aliyev.
Welcoming the participants of the meeting, the Chairman Fuad Muradov delivered a comprehensive report on the multifaceted activity and systematic projects implemented by the state committee. Recalling President Ilham Aliyev’s recommendations sounded at the 5th Congress of World Azerbaijanis regarding the protection of Azerbaijanism ideology and national identity, the Committee Chairman highly appreciated the activity of our diaspora in Kyrgyz Republic. He invited our compatriots to be more active in promoting our language, culture, and emphasized the importance of involving young people in diaspora activity.
Chairman of Kyrgyzstan-Azerbaijan Friendship and Cooperation Society Akif Alaferdov, Chairman of “Irs” Public Union Khansivar Bakhshaliyev and others delivered speeches at the event. They have told that they are proud to be the diaspora of the victorious nation, and highly appreciated the close cooperation of the Committee and our diaspora in Kyrgyzstan.
The medal of the Republic of Azerbaijan “For Service in Diaspora Activity” awarded to Asad Hasanov, a diaspora activist in Kyrgyzstan, was posthumously presented to deceased’s nephew.
At the end of the community meeting, a wide range of ideas were exchanged and questions were answered.
Then, the Chairman of the Committee was a guest of the family of Azerbaijani Alasgar Safarov, who lives in Pervomaysk village of Sokuluk district of Chuy province, near Bishkek. The Committee chairman has been told that currently 26 Azerbaijani families live in this village. Their ancestors were exiled from different regions of Azerbaijan to Kyrgyzstan during the brutal repression of the 1930s. It was stated that Kyrgyzstan became the homeland of five generations of Azerbaijanis during 90 years. It has been mentioned that Kyrgyzstan was one of the first countries to adopt the law “On compensation to victims of repression”, and descendants of Azerbaijanis exposed to repression in 1933 and born before 1956, received compensation.
During the meeting, it was emphasized that our compatriots are attached to their national roots, they love their historical homeland very much, and they feel proud for Azerbaijan’s Victory in Karabakh.
Chairman of Kyrgyzstan-Azerbaijan Friendship and Cooperation Society Akif Alaferdov accompanied the Committee chairman.
It should be noted that Sokuluk district was established on February 5, 1935 as Kaganovichsk district, and it was renamed Sokuluk in July 6, 1957. According to, 2009 population census, the total number of the Azerbaijanis of Sokuluk district has made up 2299.
